Introduction
The department of Professional Studies is the largest in the College in terms of student population. All students enrolled in the College regardless of whatever subject combinations have to study professional subjects.
Whereas the academic subject combinations are designed to strengthen the teacher trainees’ academic standard, the Professional subjects are designed to mould the teacher trainees into professional teachers and to broaden their general knowledge to be able to deal with a variety of local, national and international issues.
Curriculum
Diploma in Education Secondary (DES) and Diploma in Teaching English Language (DIPTEL)
DES and DIPTEL curriculum is composed of three disciplines which constitute the three sections: Psychology of Education, Education and Development Studies. Through these disciplines, the teacher trainees study:

- Educational Measurement and Evaluation
- History of Education
- Philosophy of Education
- Sociology of Education
- Educational Planning and Administration
- Comparative Education
- Educational Technology
- General Methods of Teaching, Classroom Management and Discipline
- Teaching Profession and Teachers’ Professional Code of Conduct
- Study and Business Communication Skills
- National and International Development Issues
- Gender Studies and
- Environmental Education, plus a few other content areas the College deems fit.
The content areas outlined above are spread throughout the two years of the course and they prepare the students to become professional teachers.
Diploma in Education Primary (DEP)
The curriculum of the DEP programme is also composed of three disciplines: Primary Education Studies, Education Studies and Basic Studies. The content areas covered in the three disciplines above include:

The DEP students are already professional teachers and so these content areas are intended to enrich and consolidate their professionalism as practicing teachers.
