Introduction
The performance of students in science has been outstanding. There are over 300 students with a science combination. Most of these students qualify for admission in the public universities in Uganda but cannot afford self-sponsorship in these universities. They therefore resort to training as teachers at NTC Kaliro to obtain Diploma in Education Secondary. The performance of these students during School Practice has always been highly commended by the administrators of the schools where they are deployed to the extent that they are retained in the schools especially when it is the Practice in the second and final year of study.
There is also in-service training programme for Grade III teachers who wish to upgrade to obtain Diploma in Education Primary. This is when the schools they are serving in have closed for holidays. This programme is private and all the students meet all the costs so they work very hard and ensure they attain their goal in education.
The Belgian Technical Corporation in its efforts to improve the quality of teacher education, among other interventions, has invested in capacity building of the teaching staff through conducting workshops, seminars and conferences. These have been locally in the College, nationally and internationally. This invention is yielding positive results and its impact is being field a lot in science education and more is yet to be registered.
